Jamie Corpuz will be presenting the following workshops for the CUPE Pro D Day on Friday, May 27th from 1-3pm at Caledonia:
The Effect of Background Noise on Listening and Learning in the Classroom
Many of our students experience an ear infection or two during the school year. When this happens, the student’s hearing is often compromised. When we add background noise of a busy classroom, the student’s ability to listen and learn is challenged. This session will not only simulate a mild hearing loss with background noise but also inform you of ways to reduce the noise to support classroom learning.
Building Effective Communication and Self-Advocacy Skills
The students we support need well developed communication skills to express their wants and needs. This session will explore effective communication, how to repair it when it breaks down and self-advocacy tools. You will learn how to apply this information to the students you work with and help them become effective communicators.
At our recent Resource Teachers’ Meeting, Jamie also recommended the following books:
El Deafo by Cece Bell
